Osteoporosis Report
Dear Granny,
I have been studying osteoporosis for the past two weeks and learned a lot and also found out things I thought were interesting! I wanted to write this to you because I know you're healthy, and it affects women who are older the most, and I thought of you!
Osteoporosis is one of the leading causes of bone fractures and breaks such as hip, wrist, spine and others. If you feel as if your bones are getting weaker and you are loosing strength you may want to consider having a bone density test! This test will give you the results in 2-4 days, and the test only takes 10-20 minutes.
I learned that fractures are mainly diagnosed by x-ray, telling if you have any broken bones. Then they will do another test most likely to see if you had a fracture by weak bones coming from osteoporosis possibly. When or if you do get diagnosed by it then they will be put you on medication. The doctor will tell you to take vitamin D and have a lot of calcium to help this. They also say to have a healthy lifestyle and exercise to stay strong and NOT to drink a lot of alcohol and to not smoke.
I hope that you like knowing that I have learned about osteoporosis and what I learned! I also hope that you know its out there and it wouldn't be random or unlikely to affect you. So maybe you learned something by me learning it and telling you!
Love you,
Kayla

Memoir- car accident
Car
Accident
By:
Kayla
“Ahhh..What
was that?, Oh my goodness what happened?” I said.
“Its okay
Kayla, everything is going to be alright and no one's hurt. Just
don't worry,” My step-dad, Davey said.
I had so many
things racing through my head at this moment such as, Where's my Mom
and Josh? are they okay?, am I hurt?, do I feel okay?. I just didn't
know what was going on.
I was eight years
old and in second grade when we got into the car accident on Bar-ell
Hill in Newport, Maine. My-step dad was driving and he wasn't
expecting anything but a normal everyday drive. We were coming up the
hill and just reached the top, all of a sudden this other van went to
pull on a side street and they smacked into the left side or (drivers
side) of our van. I don't understand how they couldn't have seen us
but apparently they weren't paying attention. There was nothing he
could do but slam on the brakes before the car was going to hit us,
which didn't make much of a difference. The car hit us on the left
side while we were on our way to my grandparents house. They hit us
and when they did we flipped over into the ditch. Davey was driving,
my mom was in the passenger seat, I was in the middle seat and my
brother, Josh, was in the back seat. When it had happened I wasn't
really sure what had happened until I realized that we were upside
down and something bad was going on . The best thing that happened
during this horrible experience was that no one got hurt. I cried for
a while but that was mental because I was in shock. I was so upset I
didn't know what happened or why? My step-dad, mom and brother, Josh
were in the car. All I heard was a big bang, we had crashed and were
in the ditch. No one was hurt, but I was feeling like my whole life
had crashed in a short period of time, in a mere two seconds. We were
all happy once we knew everything was going to be okay and got home
to rest a little after this not so fun of a time.
We were driving in
a van, which got totaled so we got a new one! The people that were
driving in the van that hit us did not have insurance, and the woman
that was driving had a fake ID. It was great that we all had seat
belts on because the windows shattered, but my seat belt got wrapped
around me about two or three times because I wore the strap that goes
in front of your chest, in behind my back which was not safe. Now I
know that and I now always wear it in front of my chest, but I did
not get hurt. After we were all out of the car we sat on the hill and
the paramedics came over to make sure that no one was hurt. The
police had to come and talk to my Mom and step Dad about what had
happened, but by that time my cousin, Amy had came to pick me up, so
I could go home and not be in the middle of everything. When I got
home she comforted me and I started to feel better. Meanwhile my Mom,
Davey, and Josh were still at the scene of the accident.
When they got home
we were all upset, even though we knew everything was going to be
okay. I knew in my heart that everything was alright and I was glad
that everything was over. The biggest thing was that I didn't ever
want it to happen to me again. I remember to this day that I was
doing math homework for my second grade teacher, Mrs. Nichols and it
was due the next day. When we got into the crash I had lost my work
and couldn't find it. When we got out of the car my brother, Josh
found it on the ground outside of the van. It had little rips in it
and was grass stained. When I took it to Mrs. Nichols the next day I
told her what had happened, and she said that she was very sorry
about the crash and not to worry about my work.
Whenever
I think about the crash today, I always think that the only reason
that none of us got hurt was because my cousin Mandi that passed away
was with us and helped us through the accident. After a few days had
passed we had all mainly mentally recovered from this incident. I
was scared to even ride in a car for almost a year, but then I
finally overcame my fear. We got a new van, so we had a car to drive.
I was proud of my Mom. Even though she wasn't the one driving, she
was not scared to drive, which was good because she didn't worry
about getting into another crash! And to this day we haven't had even
the littlest crash with another car, Thank God.
One of the
interesting things about this crash was that in the week that it had
happened, I think it was the day after our crash, we were coming home
from Newport, and another crash had happened. This time it was across
the road, and if I remember right it was a one car crash. So my Mom
and I made sure the lady was alright and proceeded home. Once we got
home we talked for a while about our car accident and how happy we
were that it was done and over with!
The
thing I learned from this car accident was to always live your life
to its fullest because you never know when or what will come to
happen to you someday. In our case no one got hurt, but we all will
still carry this with us for the rest of our lives! I always thank
God that someone was with us on this day, so none of my immediate
family got hurt or possibly killed. So never be scared of a car
accident or any other bad incidents, I think in my mind that everyone
should always be prepared for something to happen! Remember wear your
seat belts and drive and ride safely because thats what I believe
saved my life and the the life of my family members!
